Dear Mr. President,

You face difficult challenges in matters such as achieving peace in the Middle East and protecting America from the threat of radical Islam and terrorism. These are challenges that have vexed past presidents, going as far back as our second president, John Adams. I have no doubt you appreciate both the gravity of these challenges and the enormous obstacles that exist to solving them.

I also have no doubt that you and your staff understood that, no matter what you said in your speech last Thursday in Cairo, there would be those who would take issue with you. That is always the case when attempting to solve problems that are as deep and emotionally-laden as these challenges are.

I am assuming it is your sincere hope that the approach you have chosen to take, as evidenced by what I’m sure was a carefully crafted speech, will ultimately prove successful. However, it pains me to say this sir, but, while you said in your speech that you are a “student of history,” it is abundantly clear that, in these matters, you do not know history and thus, as Santayana noted, you are doomed to repeat it. In doing so your efforts, however well-intentioned they may be, will not produce what you profess to hope they will produce.

A wise man once said that if you start with the wrong assumptions, no matter how logical your reasoning is, you will end up with the wrong conclusion. With all due respect Mr. President, you are starting with certain assumptions that are unsupported by history and an objective study of the ideology of political Islam.

You began in your speech by asserting that “tensions” exist between the United States and Muslims around the world, which, of course, is correct. Unfortunately, you then proceeded, incorrectly, to lay virtually all the blame for these tensions at the feet of America and the West. You blamed western colonialism, the Cold War, and even modernity and globalism.

A student of American history, who is not trying to reconstruct it to fit a modern politically correct narrative, would state that tensions between America and Muslims began with the unprovoked, four-decades long assault by the Muslim Barbary pirates against American shipping in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. I find it telling that you mentioned the Treaty of Tripoli in your speech but ignored the circumstances that led to it. That treaty was but one of numerous attempts by the United States to achieve peace with the jihadists of the Barbary Coast who were attacking our shipping and killing and enslaving our citizens and our soldiers – and who by their own admission were doing so to fulfill the call to jihad.

These jihadists were not acting to protest American foreign policy, which was decidedly isolationist, and there was no state of Israel to scapegoat. They were doing what countless Islamic jihadists have done throughout history – acting upon the hundreds of passages in the Qur’an and the Hadith that call upon faithful Muslims to kill, conquer or subjugate the infidel.

A student of world history would know that, for all the acknowledged evils of Western colonialism, these evils pale in comparison to the nearly 14 centuries of Islamic colonialism that began in Arabia under the leadership of Mohammed. The student of history would know that Islamic forces eradicated all Jewish and Christian presence from Arabia after Mohammed’s death, and then succeeded in conquering all of North Africa, most of the Middle East, much of Asia Minor, and significant portions of Europe and India – eventually creating an empire larger than Rome’s was at its peak.

The number of dead and enslaved during these many centuries of Islamic imperial conquest and colonialism have been estimated to total more than 300 million. What’s more, the wealth of many of the conquered nations and cultures was plundered by the Islamic conquerors, and millions of millions of non-Muslims who did survive were forced to pay onerous taxes, such as the “jizya,” a humiliation tax to the Islamic caliphs. Indeed, in some areas Christians and Jews were made to wear a receipt for the jizya around their neck as a mark of their dishonor.

These facts have not been invented by Christian or Jewish historical revisionists, but were chronicled by Muslim eyewitnesses throughout the past 14 centuries and are available to be researched by any person seeking an objective understanding of how Islam spread throughout the world.

You say in your speech that we must squarely face the tensions that exist between America and the Muslim world. That is a laudable notion with which I agree, but by casting Islam as the historical victim and the West (and by implication, America) as the aggressor, you do not face these tensions squarely, but alleviate the Muslim world from coming to grips with the jihadist ideology embedded in its holy books and acted upon for 1,400 years.

Even worse, you empower and embolden militant Islamists who regard your gestures as signs of weakness and capitulation.

The issue is not that all Muslims are terrorists or radicals or extremists. We all know that the majority of Muslims are not. We also know that many peace-loving Muslims are victims of Islamist violence.

The issue is this: what drives hundreds of millions of Muslims worldwide to call for the death of Jews?

What drives millions of Muslims to riot, destroy property, and take innocent lives in reaction to the Danish cartoons?

What drives tens of thousands of Muslims to demand the execution of a British teacher whose only “crime” was allowing her students to name their teddy bears “Mohammed”?

What drives countless Muslims worldwide to actively participate in, or fund, or provide nurture to, terrorist organizations?

What drives Muslims in mosques in America to proclaim and distribute materials that call for hatred of and the destruction of infidels?

What drives entire Islamic countries to prohibit the building of a Christian church or synagogue?

To assume, as you apparently do, that what drives these actions is not an ideology embedded in the holy books of Islam, but rather other “root causes,” most of which you lay at the feet of America and the West, is at best naïve and at worst dangerous.

Lastly, I must address your statement that “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.” Unfortunately, the examples you gave are the exception rather than the rule.

Historically speaking, I seriously doubt the Egyptian Copts, the Lebanese Maronites, the Christians in Bethlehem, the Assyrians, the Hindus, the Jews, and many others who have been persecuted by Islamic violence and supremacism, would agree with your assertion.

For instance, Christians and Jews became “Dhimmis,” a second class group under Islam. Dhimmis were forced to wear distinctive clothing; it was Baghdad’s Caliph Al-Mutawakkil, in the ninth century, who designated a yellow badge for Jews under Islam, which Hitler copied and duplicated in Nazi Germany nearly a thousand years later.

I witnessed first-hand the “tolerance” of Islam when Islamists ravaged my country of birth, Lebanon, in the 1970’s, leaving widespread death and destruction in their wake. I saw how they re-paid the tolerance that Lebanese Christians extended toward them. My experience is not an isolated one. When you make an unfounded assertion about the “proud tradition” of tolerance in Islam, you do a great disservice to the hundreds of millions of non-Muslims who have been killed, maimed, enslaved, conquered, subjugated or displaced – in the cause of Islamic jihad.

Mr. President, those of us like me who are ringing the alarm in America about the threat of radical Islam would like nothing better than to peacefully co-exist with the Muslim world. Most Americans would like nothing better than to peacefully co-exist with the Muslim world. The obstacle to achieving this does not lie with us in America and the West. It lies with the hundreds of millions of Muslims worldwide, including many of their spiritual leaders, who take seriously the repeated calls to jihad in the Qur’an and the Hadith. Who regard “infidels” as inferior and worthy of conquering, subjugating and forcibly converting. Who support “cultural jihad” as a means to subvert non-Muslim societies from within. Who take seriously the admonitions throughout the Qur’an and the Hadith to convert the world to Islam – by force if necessary – and bring it under the rule of Allah.

Unless you are willing to courageously and honestly accept this, your aspirations for worldwide comity and peace in the Middle East are doomed to fail.

We’ve said it here many times on the ACT Seattle blog that Islam is a totalitarian political system and a religion (and there is no separation). On the Citizen Warrior website, it says it more succinctly: “Islam is a political religion. It makes the attainment of political goal’s a religious duty.” Often around here we’re accused of blowing things out of proportion. In the following video, U.K. jihadist Anjem Choudary talks – with complete lucidity and enthusiasm – about the overthrow of the U.K. (as well as every other country in the world) so that Islam will dominate. He lists 4 ways Islam will take over, and only one of them is “peaceful” (#2: The people decide to embrace Islam themselves).

But the most alarming thing in this video is not the happy idea that Islam will violently subjugate the world – an idea that Choudary is laughing about – but the proud admission that there is no other religion in the world – including Christianity – that Mandates world conquest. He admits it! For all the bellyaching in the Islamic media releases about

  • the infidel “occupiers” being in Muslims lands like Iraq and Afghanistan
  • about how the West is out to get Islam,
  • how worldwide, Muslims everywhere are portrayed as nearly helpless victims

Choudary says it outright in the last 40 seconds of the video (starting at 7:52):

 “Who else has an ideology like that? Honestly! An ideology and belief to overthrow any government. Nobody does! The Buddhists don’t. The Hindus, the Shiks, honestly, nobody. The Christians as well: “give all to Cesar what is Cesar’s…” all of this good theology. Nobody has this agenda on them: to implement the sharia, to remove regimes; Only the Mulsims. Therefore they could in fact “if you’re a Muslim, you’re going to be arrested” if you’re a practicing Muslim. That’s why we say “there are three types of Muslims: those who are in prison, those who are on their way to prison, and those that are not practicing. Really. If you abide by the sharia, brother, and in your life, you’re in one of those categories; one of the first two. Otherwise you’re doing something wrong.”

Get it? If you’re not actively subjugating the world for Allah, you’re doing something wrong.

I’m not making this stuff up!

This is not only coming to America; It’s already here. But it’s not too late to stop it. Make local moves (and check www.CitizenWarrior.com for more good information) in order to protect our cherished way of life.

Just as oil enabled Muslims forty years ago to start exporting their jihad in a way they had never really been able to in the 1,300 years prior, TV and the internet allows Americans to recline in a way that they had never been able to before. It is hard to get your average Joe American to get informed about the grave and growing danger of Islam to the West. For most, “CSI” or “Dancing With the Stars” is just more interesting. So our media has developed “infotainment,” and that also explains why most college students get their news form Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with John Stewart.”

 You’re better than that.

 Please take some time to view either Fitna or “Islam: What the West Needs To Know.” Fitna is 15 minutes, but gives an excellent overview of how the Koran drives current terrorism. “Islam: What the West Needs To Know” is movie length, and yet if you watch it all, you will have all the details that you need to effectively refute the falsehoods put out in the mainstream media and many national leaders who lack understanding. You will also have all the facts you need to reasonably contend for the protection of our cherished way of life. Defend first, then go back to “American Idol.”

 From “Islam: What the West Needs To Know”

Islam and Islamic civilization are unique in their stance toward nonbelievers, and that Islam is the only religion in the world that has a developed doctrine, theology, and law that mandates violence against unbelievers.

That there are peaceful Muslims, that there are Muslims around the world that are moderate, who live in harmony with their non-Muslim neighbors, and have no intention of ever waging war against them in any way. But the fact is that they have a very slim justification for their own peacefulness within the Islamic sources themselves, and they are only at peace with their neighbors insofar as they are either ignorant of what Islam teaches about how Muslims should behave toward unbelievers or they have explicitly rejected – consciously rejected – those elements of Islam.

There are – in short – peaceful and moderate Muslims, but no peaceful and moderate Islam.

The idea that Islam is a “religion of peace” however, is paradoxically enough held even by the most violent and radical of Muslims. Sayyid Qtub the Egyptian Muslim theorist who’s writings are revered by radical Muslims today, by terrorists today; he wrote and insisted that Islam is a religion of peace. When you study his writings it becomes clear that he meant that Islam is dedicated to establishing the hegemony of Islamic law over the world. When that hegemony is established, peace will reign in the world, therefore “Islam is a religion of peace.”

–         Robert Spencer

 “Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.” – Qur’an 9:29

“So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful” – Qur’an 9:5

More from “Islam: What the West Needs To Know”

What does “the verse of the sword” say? It is very clear, that when the forbidden months are over kill ‘the people of the book’ wherever you may find them. Lay siege for them. Lay wait for them. Lay ambush for them. Kill them wherever you find them.

In fact, I converted to Christianity; Mohammed clearly stated that “in the ends of days there will be many who defect from the faith. Kill them when you see them, wherever you find them.

So this is the question that the West needs to understand: what part of “kill” don’t they understand?

–         Walid Shoebat

 Please understand that “kill” means “kill.” Not some euphoric platitude about stopping wrong desires, but killing unbelievers dead. That is what Islam mandates. It is written – hundreds of times – in their holy book. That is why we must stand up against every little step of attempts to convert or subjugate western laws and values on the unholy altar of Isalm.

We the American people call on our U.S. Congress to conduct hearings for the purpose of examining extremist materials that have been found in American mosques that:

  • exhort Muslims to engage in holy war (jihad) against us;
  • incite terror and violence against us;
  • call for abolishing our constitutional form of government and replacing it with the theological totalitarianism of strict Islamic law, known as “sharia.”

There have been a number of studies of materials sold or distributed in mosques in America;

These studies have uncovered materials containing information that include calls to jihad (holy war), incitement of terror and violence, and the abolition of our constitutional form of government;

One such study of 100 American mosques found that 75% of these mosques contained such material;

There have also been video and audio recordings of Islamic leaders in America calling for jihad against America, violence against America, and the replacement of America’s constitutional government with Islamic sharia law, such as these words by a leading American imam, “…and even if we go to war brothers and sisters, and one day we will…that’s why you’re commanded to jihad…When Allah demands us to fight, we’re not stopping…”;

Such incitements to jihad, terror, violence and the abolition of our constitutional form of government are illustrated by the following examples, excerpted from materials that have been distributed in mosques in recent years:

  • “…we [Muslims] will not stop…but will pursue this evil force to its own lands, invade its Western heartland, and struggle to overcome it until all the world shouts by the name of the Prophet and the teachings of Islam spread throughout the world. Only then will Muslims achieve their fundamental goal, and there will be no more ‘persecution’ and all religion will be exclusively for Allah….”
  • “To be true Muslims, we must prepare and be ready for jihad in Allah’s way. It is the duty of the citizen and the government. The military education is glued to faith and its meaning, and the duty to follow it.”
  • “[O]ur doctrine states that if you accept any religion other than Islam, like Judaism or Christianity, which are not acceptable, you become an unbeliever. If you do not repent, you are an apostate and you should be killed because you have denied the Koran.”
  • A document which states that supporting democracy amounts to “nullify[ing] one’s Islam.” Another which exhorts Muslims that changing government systems such as democratic ones is “binding in principle, in law, in self-defense, in community and as a sacred obligation of jihad.”
  • “Muslim countries have been ruled by manmade systems ….This overlay of secular cultures makes it all the more necessary to abolish all traces of such primitive life (jahiliyya) and to reinforce the understanding and application of the eternal and universal Islamic deen [religion] until it becomes the ruling power throughout the world.”

The links between an extremist ideology and Islamic terror were reported in the 9/11 Commission Report, which stated:

“But the enemy is not just ‘terrorism,’ some generic evil. This vagueness blurs the strategy. The catastrophic threat at this moment in history is more specific. It is the threat posed by Islamist terrorism – especially al Qaeda network, its affiliates and its ideology.”

A Pew Research Center survey in 2007 found that 26% of American Muslims under the age of 30 believe suicide bombings are at times justified and legitimate;

Since the practice of religion in America does not include the right to create the imminent threat of terror or incite violence, terror, and the advocacy of the abolition of our constitutional form of government;

We, the American people, have a right to know to what extent the incitement to terror, violence and the overthrow of our constitutional form of government is being advocated through materials within Muslim tax-exempt organizations in our country, and a recent nationwide poll found that 74% of American voters agree that Congress should conduct hearings to examine such materials;

Since there is sufficient evidence to indicate that the information in some materials sold or distributed in mosques in America rises to the level of a genuine threat to our nation’s security and liberty;

Since it is the first responsibility of our federal government to safeguard the national security of our country and its citizens and guests;

And because the oath of office of a Member of Congress is an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution;

We, the undersigned, call upon Congress to conduct hearings to examine materials that have been uncovered that have been sold or distributed in mosques in the United States, to determine if these materials violate federal statutes governing tax-exempt organizations; to determine if these materials violate federal anti-terrorism statutes; and to determine if these materials violate federal statutes prohibiting sedition, the advocacy and/or effort of abolishing or overthrowing our constitutional form of government.
